AG New England Sponsors Planetarium Trips for Students
PEMBROKE, N.H. -- Associated Grocers of New England here is sponsoring school trips to the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in Concord, N.H. for students in the surrounding area, through an initiative called the School Investment program.
Said planetarium director of development Gretchen Beanlands in a statement: "The sponsorship offers opportunities for students and teachers to attend the planetarium, which features a recently renovated theater, free of charge for workshops, programs, demonstrations, and projects where space, science, and astronomy come to life every day. Through the generosity of AG New England, educational experience can extend beyond the classroom for students and teachers, reminding them of Christa McAuliffe's dream 'to reach for the stars.'"
McAuliffe, a teacher from New Hampshire, died in the 1986 Challenger shuttle disaster.
"When we built our new distribution center in Pembroke, we were welcomed by the community with open arms," added AG New England president and c.e.o. Michael Bourgoine. "The community was very supportive throughout the construction process. AG New England and its employees believe in civic involvement and community support. We've been extremely impressed with the progressive thinking within the local school community, and we're happy to do our part by sponsoring this program over the next 12 months."
The company began the sponsorship in June.
AG New England, owned entirely by independent retail grocers as members of a cooperative and the largest retailer-owned, wholesale grocery distribution center in New England, serves independent retail food stores in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and the upstate New York/Albany area.
