7-Eleven March Sales Jump 15.5 Percent

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc.'s total March sales rose 15.5 percent to $ 920.7 million from $797.3 million the prior year, boosted by a 39.3 percent increase in gasoline sales due primarily to increased fuel prices.

The convenience store operator said the average volume of gas sold per store rose 2.8 percent from a year ago. Same-store merchandise sales grew 4.7 percent in March, while its total merchandise sales grew 6.3 percent to $612.8 million from $576.3 million in March 2002.

The story remains much the same with year-to-date figures, which found gasoline sales up 45.2 percent and merchandise sales up 5.7 percent. Gasoline sales totaled $833.3 million in the first three months of the year while merchandise sales rose about $1.72 million.

7-Eleven closed on the New York Stock Exchange Monday at $7.75, down 6 cents, or 0.8% for the day.
