4th Ground-up Market 32 by Price Chopper Store Opens
The Golub Corp. has opened its latest Market 32 location, in Clifton Park, N.Y. Although the store is the 15th to open under the next-generation banner since the company revealed plans to convert the majority of its stores to the new concept, it’s only the fourth to have been built from the ground up. The other newly constructed locations are in Sutton, Mass., opened in October 2015; Oxford, Conn., opened in September 2016; and Fort Edward, N.Y., opened in January 2017.
“Market 32 is a contemporary, food-focused store that reflects what our customers have told us they want in a modern and convenient shopping experience,” said Golub Corp. President and CEO Scott Grimmett. “We continue to evolve our Market 32 brand, incorporating the offers, enhanced service and technology that are resonating most with today’s customers.”
The new 52,400-square-foot store, which employs nearly 160 full- and part-time associates, is almost twice the size of the Price Chopper that used to operate on the same site, and is the centerpiece of a redesigned Clifton Park Plaza and new parking area currently under development. This is the second Market 32 in Clifton Park; the other, which was converted from a Price Chopper, opened in 2015.
Attending the official ribbon-cutting ceremony were Golub Corp. Executive Chairman Neil Golub, Grimmett, Vice Chairman Jerry Golub and Store Manager Ed Gendron, along with elected officials and civic and business leaders, as well as hundreds of local residents.
Market 32 stores feature open space and a décor marked by soft earth tones and product-focused displays, murals and lighting. The brand emphasizes convenient, ready-to-eat foods; fresh, handcrafted and locally grown, produced and manufactured products; and intuitive product/department adjacencies, such as placing greeting cards next to the floral department. Market 32 stores are committed to supporting local manufacturers and growers, sourcing authentic imports, and expanding varieties of gluten-free, organic and natural products.
“Our newest Clifton Park Market 32 is a grocery store for all generations,” added Grimmett. “And while we remain focused on quality, value and a high standard of service, we’ve enhanced the shopping experience with modern conveniences and a host of signature categories, items and offers – from customized prepared foods to drive-thru pharmacies, patisseries, cafés equipped with Wi-Fi, and growler stations that raise the bar in meeting the needs of today’s customers.”
The Golub Corp. expects to break ground on a new Market 32 in Maynard, Mass., this summer. Future locations of the banner could open in East Greenbush, N.Y.; Burlington and Brattleboro, Vt.; and Worcester, Mass.
Based in Schenectady, N.Y., the Golub Corp. owns and operates 136 Price Chopper and Market 32 grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Golub’s 20,000 teammates collectively own more than 44 percent of the company’s privately held stock, making it one of the nation’s largest privately held corporations that’s predominantly employee-owned.
