Food Lion Strives for ‘Holidays Without Hunger'
Food Lion is making it convenient and affordable for shoppers at its more than 1,000 stores to help needy families through its annual Food Lion Feeds Holidays Without Hunger campaign, which runs through Dec. 20.
The campaign enables customers to purchase and donate a specially marked Holidays Without Hunger food boxes for $5 each, while supplies last, or donate cash at checkout.
Food Lion Feeds has joined with Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief and food rescue charity, for the campaign, with all cash donations to benefit the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, and all food boxes donated directly to local food banks or partner agencies. Customers also have the option to buy and take a box home for their own use.
Working toward its commitment to provide 500 million meals by the end of 2020, Food Lion Feeds has already given about 239 million meals via in-store campaigns, as well as local donations and volunteerism throughout its store footprint.
A company of Delhaize America, a U.S. division of Amsterdam-based Royal Ahold Delhaize Group, Salisbury,N.C.-based Food Lion has nearly 1,000 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, and employs more than 63,000 associates.
