A&P Wants Out of Closed Stores’ Leases
As its Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection process winds down, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. has asked the court for permission to reject the unexpired leases of more than 50 leases of closed unsold stores, as well as of the company’s headquarters in Montvale, N.J.
The date given in the documents for the rejection of the leases is Dec. 31, with any objections to be filed no later than Jan. 4, 2016.
The stores involved are former A&P, Pathmark, Food Basics, Superfresh and Waldbaum’s locations in Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, Melville, N.Y.-based A&G Realty Co. is offering 55 former A&P locations for sublease.
