Ahold USA Stores Launch Own-Brand Espresso Capsules

Ahold USA divisions Stop & Shop, Giant Landover and Giant/Martin’s have become the first supermarkets to carry own-brand Nespresso Machine-compatible espresso capsules.

The 10-count item, which debuted in early May, retails for an everyday low price of $5.99, or 59 cents per cup, a Stop & Shop spokeswoman told Progressive Grocer.

According to the spokeswoman, the product, which capitalizes on the growing preference of consumers, particularly Millennials, for specialty coffee, is merchandised as part of the center store single-serve coffee set and will be included in promotions for own-brand single-serve coffee. The week it launched, it was offered at a special price of two for $5.

As for sales of the new item, she noted that “customer response is just beginning to build.”
