Anne Dament to Lead Merchandising at Supervalu

Supervalu Inc. has named Anne Dament as its senior vice president of retail, merchandising and marketing to lead the company's retail banner operations and oversee retail merchandising and marketing functions.

Dament most recently served as SVP of merchandising for Target Corp., where before leaving in November she oversaw food merchandising for its grocery business, including perishables, non-perishables, foodservice and private label brands.

Recently chosen as a 2016 PG Top Woman in Grocery – a first-time showing for Target on PG's national list of female food industry movers and shakers – Dament began her 20-year grocery and CPG career as a buyer at Minneapolis-based Supervalu.

“Returning to Supervalu provides a great opportunity to collaborate with grocery veterans I’ve respected throughout my career,” Dament said. “Together, I’m looking forward to bringing a renewed energy to our retail banners.”

Dament takes her new post effective immediately and will report to Supervalu President/CEO Mark Gross.

"I’m thrilled that Anne is joining our leadership team,” Gross said. “As we focus on improving our retail store performance, Anne's experience across varied retail and merchandising disciplines should prove extremely beneficial. Anne is a dynamic, collaborative leader with great experience building and leading high performing teams through transformation and change.”

In an exclusive interview with PG last summer, Dament said her retail philosophies include achieving “differentiation with a relentless focus on assortment within … signature grocery categories.” The best way to achieve these ends, Dament asserted, is “to work as closely as possible with our vendors to create meaningful partnerships that lead to unique assortments.”

After leaving her first stint at Supervalu, Dament moved on to Safeway, where she held various category and sales management roles, and later led the Pleasanton, Calif.-based supermarket chain’s home care and general merchandising business operations, focusing closely on the retailer’s global procurement strategies. In her final role at Safeway, Dament was group VP of perishables, where she orchestrated new assortment and merchandising strategies, including meal solutions and grab-and-go options.

Returning to Minnesota in April 2015 to join Target from PetSmart, where her most recent role was VP of services, Dament also worked at ConAgra Foods’ Grist Mill Co. subsidiary and Otis Spunkmeyer.

Supervalu Inc. serves customers across the United States through a network of 2,067 stores composed of 1,850 stores operated by wholesale customers serviced primarily by the company’s food distribution business, 195 traditional retail grocery stores operated under five retail banners, and 22 stores operated under the Shop 'N Save name in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
