Stop & Shop Bringing Same-Day Delivery to Boston

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. plans to bring same-day grocery delivery to customers in Boston, partnering with third-party delivery service Instacart to handle the last mile.

Stop & Shop customers can use instacart.com or the San Francisco-based service’s app to fill their virtual carts, select a delivery window – from one or two hours to seven days in advance – and Instacart’s shoppers will handle the rest.

"Our new partnership with Instacart is yet another example of how Stop & Shop is continuously searching for ways to serve our shoppers, helping them to save money, save time and eat well," said Mark McGowan, president of Stop & Shop. "With Instacart, we are adding to our pickup, self-checkout and other options to bring convenience to a new level."

Based in San Francisco, Instacart has set a goal of launching in more than 100 new markets in 2017. In April, it revealed plans to serve 80 percent of American households by 2018.

Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop, an Ahold USA banner, employs more than 61,000 associates and operates 419 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.
