United President Makes Statement on Produce Industry's Response to National Tragedy

Commenting on the produce industry's reaction to last week's tragic events, United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association President and CEO Tom Stenzel made the following statement on Monday: "We are gratified at the outpouring of produce industry support to help the victims of last week's tragedy. Many companies have made donations of cash and food products, and their employees have made personal contributions by giving blood and donating time and energy to the recovery operations both here in the Washington, D.C. area and in New York.

The outpouring of support during a tragedy such as this also reminds us of the daily needs of those less fortunate in our midst throughout the country who may not have enough to eat or a place to sleep. We encourage our members to continue to provide food donations, logistical assistance and other direct support to organizations such as America's Second Harvest and other food relief organizations in their communities to assist in meeting these long-term needs.

We urge all members of our produce family to continue reaching out at this time and in the months to come to share the bounty of our industry with those in need."
