Winn-Dixie Bows Smartphone App

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. has launched a smartphone application that it says will help customers better manage their prescriptions and find the nearest Winn-Dixie pharmacy with an iPhone, Android or Blackberry smartphone. The easy-to-use app can be downloaded free through Apple Inc.’s iTunes, the Android Market, BlackBerry App World, or via links on Winn-Dixie’s mobile website at https://m.winndixierx.com/help.

“This new app will make our guests’ busy lives easier, allowing them to take better control of their health directly from their mobile device,” said Mary Kellmanson, group VP of marketing at Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn-Dixie, whose supermarkets in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi feature about 380 in-store pharmacies. “Using the new app will help guests view and reorder prescriptions, receive alerts when their prescription is ready, set reminders to take their medications and remind them of dosage, and even remind them to schedule a doctor’s appointment.”

The new app and its mobile website operate on a secure network developed by San Francisco-based mscripts. It supports interactive SMS messaging, e-mail, push notifications and mobile calendar integration.

“The Winn-Dixie Pharmacy App is all about improving the relationship between the pharmacy and the patient, reducing or eliminating wait times, and enabling the pharmacists to spend more time on important things -- like listening to patient questions and giving health advice,” noted mscripts CEO Mark Cullen. “Winn-Dixie guests can refill prescriptions with a touch of a button, wherever they are. The result is a better shopping experience and better health management.”
