Wegmans Hiring for New Md. Store
Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is now seeking full-time employees for a new store set to open in mid-June in Columbia, Md. The 145,000-square-foot supermarket with a two-floor parking garage will be the Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer’s fifth store in the state.
About 250 of the 700 total positions available are full-time, ranging from entry-level management, customer service and cashiers to a wide variety of culinary and restaurant positions. Around 600 of the new employees will hail from nearby Harford, Baltimore and Montgomery counties.
Applicants must apply online, with subsequent interviews conducted by appointment only. Applications won’t be accepted at the store or by telephone. Hiring for part-time positions will start in March.
“Wegmans is all about professional and personal development,” noted Columbia Store Manager Wendy Webster, who first came to Maryland in 2005 to open the company’s first store in the state, in Hunt Valley. “We’re looking for people who want to grow with us, to take advantage of the tremendous career opportunities Wegmans offers.”
Continued Webster: “We’re looking for people who want positions in which they can offer excellent service to customers. We can teach people the grocery business, but the passion for great service comes from within.”
Wegmans offers employees competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, a scholarship program and flexible scheduling, among other advantages.
The Columbia store will carry more than 70,000 individual products, among them an extensive array of prepared foods, fresh seafood delivered daily, up to 700 fresh produce items, and 300 types of imported and domestic cheese. The location will also serve restaurant-style food service in the Market Café.
Family-owned Wegmans operates 79 stores in New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Virginia.
