Wakefern Launches Own Credit Cards with Contactless Payment

ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Wakefern Food Corp., which operates ShopRite and PriceRite stores, and Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co., yesterday rolled out the ShopRite Rite-Rewards MasterCard, ShopRite Private Label Credit Card, and PriceRite Private Label Credit Card.

The ShopRite Rite-Rewards MasterCard and the ShopRite Private Label Credit Card have all the benefits of the ShopRite PricePlus membership built directly into the card, the retailer said. All cards will have card members' PricePlus membership numbers printed on the back, ensuring that card members receive special savings every time they shop with the card.

All three new card products are enabled with blinkSM, the contactless introduced by Chase in 2005 as the industry's first widely available contactless payment product for consumer cards.

Additionally, ShopRite Rite-Rewards MasterCard card members will earn three points per dollar spent on all ShopRite branded goods, two points per dollar spent on all other products purchased at ShopRite, and one point per dollar spent everywhere else.

"ShopRite and PriceRite customers are loyal and deserve the valuable benefits these cards offer," said Wakefern chairman and c.e.o. Joe Colalillo in a statement. "We want to make their lives easier by giving them the speed and convenience of shopping with blink."

To use Chase cards with blink, card members hold their cards near a point-of-sale terminal at checkout. When they do so, the terminal will emit a signal or tone to acknowledge payment confirmation. Card members are 100 percent protected from any fraudulent activity through MasterCard's zero-liability policy.

Customers can apply for and learn more about the cards by visiting www.chase.com or calling (800) 537-0200 for ShopRite Cards and (888)215-0040 for the PriceRite Card.

ShopRite supermarkets are members of Wakefern, a retailer-owned cooperative with stores located throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware. Wakefern wholly owns the PriceRite stores, which are located in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania.
