Toys 'R' Us, Albertsons Sign Multiyear Pact

PARAMUS, N.J. - Toys "R" Us Inc. has signed a multiyear agreement to become the exclusive toy provider at all Albertson's Inc. food and drug stores.

In a joint press release Tuesday, the companies said the details of the agreement are undisclosed.

Under the agreement, Albertson's will become the exclusive Toys "R" Us grocery and drug partner in the majority of markets the company operates.

Toys "R" Us will have a permanent branded and, in some cases, unbranded presence year round at more than 2,300 Albertson's stores in 31 states.

The branded presence will be executed through a store-within-a-store concept called Toy Box.

Albertson's and Toys "R" Us said they will roll out varying versions of the store-within-a-store concept in two phases, beginning this year in about half of Albertsons' stores and completing the rollout by mid-2004.
