Tesco's U.S. Strategy Taking Shape: Financial Times

LONDON -- Leading U.K. food retailer Tesco has chosen Los Angeles and Phoenix, Ariz. as its markets of entrance for the United States in 2007, the Financial Times reported yesterday. Job advertisements indicate that Tesco will brand its convenience stores as "Tesco Fresh & Easy."

Real estate consultants told the newspaper that the company is looking at sites of around 15,000 square feet. Tesco also reportedly has acquired a 1.4 million-square-foot distribution center in Riverside County, which is east of Los Angeles. Meanwhile the company has established its U.S. corporate headquarters in El Segundo, south of Los Angeles International Airport, according to the report.

Tesco, which announced its plans to enter the U.S. market in February, has not released further details of its plans.
