Supervalu Appoints Executive Management Team

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu, Inc. here said yesterday that it has appointed new executive management team to lead the company when its acquisition of Albertson's, Inc. retail properties is completed. The acquisition, which will create the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer, is expected to wrap up next month, following special shareholder meetings May 30.

As the company noted earlier, Jeff Noddle will continue as Supervalu chairman and c.e.o. Since taking the helm in 2001, Noddle has restructured the business through such strategies as expanding the retail operation, encouraging the creation of multiple retail formats, beefing up the supply chain, and improving company's finances.

"We are moving quickly to ensure that the new Supervalu will be a focused organization with a best-in-class management team to capitalize on the enormous opportunity presented by the combination of these two great companies," said Noddle in a statement. "This team reflects the best combination of strengths needed to make Supervalu successful."

Continued Noddle, "As a retail powerhouse, our executive team reflects an expanded retailing competency as well as top-notch business leaders to deliver the results we set before ourselves."

Both will report to Noddle. Additionally, recently retired Supervalu c.i.o. Bob Borlik will provide interim technology consulting support, reporting to Knous.
