Stop & Shop/Giant Offers Free Healthy Living Booklet

QUINCY, Mass. -- In keeping with its continuing efforts to educate customers on the USDA MyPyramid food groups, the Ahold USA-owned Stop & Shop/Giant Food arena has released a new free quarterly Healthy Living booklet, "Super Star Foods."

Super Star Foods are rich in nutrients, have added health benefits, taste great, and are easy to include in one's diet, according to the retailer. The booklets, which are available near the entrance of all Stop & Shop and Giant stores, offer tips and recipes on many of these foods, among them oats, spinach, blueberries, yogurt, avocados, and salmon.

Noted Giant/Stop & Shop consumer advisor Andrea Astrachan in a statement: "Stop & Shop and Giant's Healthy Living booklets offers consumers information on the importance of eating nutrient-rich foods, including fruits, vegetables and whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean meats." Additionally, colorful signs in the stores enable shoppers to identify Super Star Foods in the aisles as well, according to the company.

The booklet, which can also be downloaded from the banners' respective Web sites, was written by Stop & Shop/Giant's in-house nutritionists and reviewed by its health-and-wellness advisor, Dr. George S. Blackburn of Harvard Medical School.
