Stop & Shop New York Metro Div. Fights Pediatric Cancer

Through July 12, shoppers at the Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC will be able to help support pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) via the Ahold USA banner’s annual Triple Winner Game. Customers who make a $1 contribution to MSKCC receive a Triple Winner scratch ticket and can win free store products, gift cards or cash prizes up to $10,000.

To date, the program has raised a total of $69 million for the fight against childhood cancer. In the New York metro division, more than $10,150,000 has been donated to MSKCC’s department of pediatrics. This year, Stop & Shop, with support from the New York Yankees in the New York metro division, has pledged to raise $1.5 million this year.

“Triple Winner has become a campaign that has saved lives, created research paths and provided genuine hope to families waiting for a cure,” said Don Sussman, president of Stop & Shop’s New York metro division in Fairfield, Conn. “There is now a proud and growing Triple Winner family of young people who have a bright future because we have been able to put dollars into cancer research. I can’t think of a better reward for everyone who continues to make this campaign a success.”

Additionally, Edy’s Grand Ice Cream is once more teaming up with Stop & Shop for a special fundraising day on Saturday, April 28 in support of Triple Winner. What’s more, several Edy’s product lines, including single-serve ice cream cups, shakes and smoothies, will be part of a special promotion benefiting MSKCC. The Oakland, Calif.-based brand will donate five cents for every single-serve cup, shake or smoothie sold between April 13 and June 7 to MSKCC, with no limitation on the amount donated during this time period. Last year, Edy’s raised about $50,000 for the New York metro division and aims to raise even more this year.

“[T]his campaign represents the heart of the communities embracing our children,” said Dr. Paul A. Meyers, vice chairman of the department of pediatrics at New York-based MSKCC. “With their support, our researchers can continue to develop new ways to make childhood cancer treatment more effective for each child we treat.”

Ahold USA sister banner Giant-Landover has also launched its own annual Triple Winner game program in support of local organizations that fight childhood cancer.

Stop & Shop employs about 62,000 associates and operates more than 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey.
