Stater Bros. to Offer Breast Cancer Drug in October

As a way to show support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, all 28 Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy locations will offer a free 30-day supply of Tamoxifen, a medication commonly used to treat the disease. To take part in the program, customers must have a valid doctor’s prescription. No membership or other commitment is necessary to receive the 30-day supply.

“At some point in their lives, almost everyone has been affected by cancer,” noted Jack H. Brown, chairman and CEO of the San Bernardino, Calif.-based grocer. “Stater Bros. Supermarkets believes in doing the right thing for the right reason.”

Additionally, Stater Bros. Charities, the charitable division of Stater Bros., will raise funds to combat all types of cancer by hosting the 3rd Annual Believe Walk on Sunday, Oct. 3 in Redlands Calif.

Stater Bros. pharmacies also feature a free antibiotic program offering a 14-day supply of selected antibiotics, including refills, at no charge to anyone with or without health insurance coverage who submits a prescription, as well as a $4 generic prescription program, under which more than 300 commonly prescribed medications cost $4 for a 30-day supply or $10 for a 90-day supply.

The largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California, Stater Bros. operates 167 supermarkets and employs 18,000 associates. The company will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year.
