Spartan Stores Installs New Directors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – At its annual meeting held here yesterday, Spartan Stores, Inc.'s shareholders elected Gregory P. Josefowicz, president and c.e.o. of Borders Group, Inc., and Craig G. Sturken, chairman, president, and c.e.o. of Spartan Stores, to serve as directors for three-year terms through 2007.

Shareholders also voted to ratify Deloitte & Touche, LLP as the company's independent auditors for fiscal 2005.

Spartan Stores, Inc. is the nation's eighth-largest grocery distributor, with warehouse facilities in Grand Rapids and Plymouth, Mich. The company distributes more than 40,000 private label and national brand products to 330 independent grocery stores in Michigan, and also owns and operates 54 retail supermarkets and 21 deep-discount food and drug stores in Michigan and Ohio, including Family Fare Supermarkets, Glen's Markets, and The Pharm.
