ShopRite to Show ‘Can Do Spirit’

ShopRite and the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team will host the second annual ShopRite Partners In Caring food drive to benefit Philabundance at the Sunday, July 8 Phillies-Atlanta Braves game at Citizens Bank Park. Attendees who bring a nonperishable food item to the ShopRite Can Can truck parked on Citizens Bank Way between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. will get a free ShopRite reusable grocery bag, while supplies last. Fans can also drop off donations in Philabundance bins at the venue’s entrance gates.

This year, the ShopRite truck, featuring the ShopRite Can Can dancers, will also mark the 10th anniversary of ShopRite’s Summer Can Can sale. The Northeast grocery chain aims to collect more than 10,000 pounds of food to help the needy in the Delaware Valley.

Additional highlights of the event will include music by 98.1 WOGL;ShopRite Can Can dancing with the Phillies Ballgirls; activities for kids of all ages, presented by ShopRite and The Please Touch Museum; a chance to win tickets to the upcoming “ShopRite Jimmy Rollins Back-to-School Cooler Giveaway Night” at the Phillies game on Sunday, Aug, 26; food sampling; a scheduled appearance by beloved team mascot the Phillies Phanatic; and a scheduled special visit by Phillies legend Greg “The Bull” Luzinski. Game tickets aren’t required to take part the ShopRite Partners In Caring food drive on Citizens Bank Way.

ShopRite is also one of many Phillies partners participating in the month-long “Phans Feeding Families” initiative, which helps raise money and collect food to feed the 900,000 people in the Delaware Valley who are at risk of hunger each year.

“We are dedicated to this cause, and since 1999 have donated more than $2 million to Philabundance through our 'ShopRite Partners In Caring' program,” noted Christine Magyarits, spokeswoman for ShopRite Partners In Caring, an initiative of ShopRite, the registered trademark of Keasbey, N.J.-based retailer-owned cooperative Wakefern Food Corp. With almost 250 supermarkets located throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland, ShopRite serves more than 5 million customers each week.

“ShopRite continues to prove that they are a great partner in helping families in need,” said Dave Buck, Phillies SVP of marketing and advertising Sales. “Based on last year’s results, we are confident that, once again, we will make a significant impact through the support of ShopRite and the many fans who get involved in this unique food drive.”

“ShopRite and the ShopRite Partners in Caring program are amazing longtime supporters of Philabundance and the fight against hunger,” added Bill Clark, president and executive director of the Philadelphia-based anti-hunger organization. “Without partners like ShopRite, Philabundance would not be able to fulfill our mission and help feed 65,000 people each week.”
