ShopRite Coming to Colonie, N.Y.

ShopRite Supermarkets Inc. (SRS), which owns and operates 32 ShopRite stores in New York and New Jersey, including three recently opened locations in New York state’s Capital Region, will hold the grand opening of the new 65,000-square-foot ShopRite of Colonie on Sunday, April 7, 2013. SRS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Keasbey, N.J.-based Wakefern Food Corp., the largest U.S. supermarket cooperative.

Along with a wide assortment of groceries, fresh produce and locally sourced products, the store will feature a fresh bake shop, fresh meats, fresh seafood, a full-service floral department and an in-store pharmacy, as well as an extensive selection of ethnic foods and natural and organic products in every department. The location will also offer many prepared foods and specialty items, including a gourmet coffee bar, a fresh salad bar, hot food and Mediterranean olive bars, and an array of Japanese and Chinese items for dining in or takeout, as well as fresh-made sushi.

The ShopRite of Colonie will also provide the “ShopRite from Home” service, which enables customers to order groceries remotely and have those orders ready for pickup at the store. Additionally, an on-site registered dietitian will be available to help customers shop for healthy choices or specific diets, at no charge. A unique feature of the location will be a Wi-Fi lounge, where shoppers can eat lunch or enjoy a cup of coffee while browsing the Internet on their personal devices.

Further, the new store will feature the latest energy-saving and sustainable technologies in refrigeration and lighting, among them glass doors on the dairy and freezer cases, LED and T-8 lighting, and environmentally friendly refrigerant systems. Another green feature will be electric car-charging stations in front of the store, located in specially marked parking spaces.

Wakefern is made up of 48 members who individually own and operate nearly 250 supermarkets under the ShopRite banner in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, serving more than 5 million customers each week.
