SeaPak To Offer Certified Wild American Shrimp

BUFFALO, N.Y. - SeaPak Shrimp Co. here will offer Certified Wild American Shrimp in its value-added product lines nationwide beginning this December.

"Participating in the Certified Wild American Shrimp program allows us to offer a premium product to our customers and to consumers," said Jack Kilgore, president of Rich-SeaPak Corp. "Our goal is to continually set new standards of excellence in customer satisfaction and to achieve new levels of competitive success in our value-added shrimp business. We believe that providing products that feature Certified Wild American Shrimp moves us closer to achieving that goal."

The company plans a national rollout through its club and retail customers, which will be supported by in-store promotions, product demonstrations, and packaging featuring the official mark of Certified Wild American Shrimp.

SeaPak joins more than 50 organizations that are part of the Certified Wild American Shrimp program. "The increase in partners seeking to become affiliated through the Certified Wild American Shrimp Program reflects the industry's desire to give consumers a choice by providing a premium U.S. product and also support the local shrimp harvesters," said Eddie Gordon, executive director of the Charleston, S.C.-based Wild American Shrimp, Inc. (WASI).

Gordon said WASI has also seen a significant increase in the demand for Certified Wild American Shrimp from consumers. "I believe it's in response to their demand for the fresh flavor and crisp texture that is unique to shrimp harvested locally and directly from nature."

WASI, which devotes its resources to raising public awareness about the many nutritional and economic benefits of domestic, wild-caught shrimp, is designed to educate consumers about the advantages of selecting caught-in-the-wild American shrimp that is caught fresh and supports the shrimp industry of eight Gulf and South Atlantic states: Alabama , Florida , Georgia , Louisiana , Mississippi , North Carolina , Texas , and South Carolina.

The SeaPak Shrimp Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary Rich Products Corp., one of the nation's largest privately owned frozen food companies.
