Save Mart Campaign Helps ‘BEAT’ Heart Disease

Save Mart Supermarkets has made substantial headway toward its goal to raise $400,000 in collaboration with the American Heart Association through the grocer's year-long BEAT campaign.

The Modesto, Calif.-based grocer has already collected more than $300,000 since February of this year from online donations and sales of heart icons at Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx stores throughout northern California and Nevada.

“Our associates and customers have come together in a great way to help BEAT heart disease,” said Alicia Rockwell, public affairs director for Save Mart Supermarkets. “This cause is very near and dear to us and we are committed to sustaining our efforts to support the American Heart Association until the day we can all celebrate the end of this disease. That is our ultimate goal.”

"We are very pleased with the success of the BEAT campaign and our collaboration with Save Mart Supermarkets,” said Patricia Rodriguez, board chair for the American Heart Association’s Sacramento division and SVP and area manager for Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento. “Dollars raised through the generosity of Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx customers and associates will help fund valuable research and education to aid in the battle against heart disease -- the number one killer of women in our country.”

Save Mart Supermarkets owns and operates 226 stores in California and Nevada under the Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky, Maxx Value Foods and FoodMaxx banners.

Officials from the American Heart Association, along with heart transplant survivor Nicole Ludwig, and Jeff Burton, NASCAR driver of the #31 Chevrolet, accept a check for $300,000 from Save Mart Supermarkets at the Sonoma Raceway as part of the BEAT Campaign to end heart disease.
