Sainsbury's Installs Digital Media Screens for In-Store Entertainment

LONDON, United Kingdom -- Sainsbury's Supermarkets is installing digital media screens at eight locations in a pilot that -- if successful -- will continue in a 100-store rollout across the United Kingdom.

The Entertainment Xtra screens, produced by digital communications provider Retec Interface, are located within the entertainment software departments and, according to Retec, are aimed at driving sales, generating advertising revenues, improve the customer buying ambience, as well as enabling customers to try video products before buying them.

At least three large plasma screens and four smaller touch screens have been installed in each pilot store. The 15 inch touch screens feature trailers for all Sainsbury's entertainment products, including music, films, games, and books.

"We believe this is what our suppliers have been waiting for and that we can offer significant extra value to our customers," said Ria Konkon, entertainment category manager, Sainsburys.
