Rouses Opens 44th Store

Rouses Supermarkets opened its 44th store on Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Gretna, La. Although the Thibodaux, La.-based grocer already has two locations in the Westbank area of greater New Orleans, the new store is its first ground-up market there.

"All of our stores offer our trademark blend of quality, service and value," noted Rouses Managing Partner Donny Rouse, "but each one has its own distinct local personality."

Adds Rouse: "We’re famous for our food, and we sell a lot of hot and cold meals during breakfast lunch and dinner, so we set up indoor and outdoor café seating, a first for the Westbank." Additionally, while all of the grocer's stores provide carryout service, the newest location features a rain canopy. "You can pull up and we'll load your groceries for you," said Rouse.

Among the traditional Rouses elements at the new Gretna store are a hot-food bar; a fresh salad, fruit, grain and soup bar; a sushi bar; a deli with signature selections and sliced-to-order meats; full-service bakery and floral departments; a full-service butcher shop and sausage kitchen where butchers prepare homemade Cajun specialties and sausages; a seafood department with a seafood boiling room; and a liquor department featuring value-priced wine, beer and spirits.

In addition to five new Alabama locations that recently debuted, new ground-up Rouses stores are slated to open later this year in Lafayette and Denham Springs, La. "As we grow, so do the opportunities for our local partners like Chisesi Meat, Swamp Pop and Abita," observed Rouse.
