Price Chopper Introduces Specialty Pharmacy Program

Price Chopper Supermarkets has launched a specialty pharmacy program to provide more convenient, personalized solutions for patients with chronic and complex health conditions. The initiative is part of a partnership with Aureus Health Services, a Pittsburgh-based specialty pharmacy and health management company.

Price Chopper VP of Pharmacy Kathy Bryant noted, "Our patients will reap the benefits of having all of their medication needs managed locally by their neighborhood pharmacist, with whom they have a strong and trusting relationship."

The program will give patients access to specialty medications, which can be difficult to administer, are costly, require strict adherence to a treatment plan, and often require special storage or handling, at their local community pharmacies. Among the chronic health conditions typically treated with specialty medications are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, hepatitis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis and Crohn's disease.

Additional services include providing educational resources, developing individualized clinical care plans, coordinating insurance benefits, finding financial assistance to help patients pay for their medications, and ensuring continuous patient care throughout the course of treatment.

"Price Chopper's position in the market and local access [are] perfectly suited for a hands-on approach to specialty pharmacy," said Aureus CEO Michael Nameth.

As well as the specialty pharmacy program, Price Chopper pharmacies offer Diabetes AdvantEdge, immunizations, therapy management, and medication discounts through the RxAdvantEdge Plan.
