Price Chopper Hosts KC Food Drive

Kansas City-area supermarket chain Price Chopper recently hosted its metro area's first-ever perishable food drive.

In partnership with the Harvesters Community Food network and NBC Channel 41 Action News, the “Fill the Fridge” drive raised enough food and funds to create more than 130,000 meals for hungry people in Kansas City.

For five days in a row earlier this month, Harvesters parked a refrigerated truck in front of one of Price Chopper’s 49 stores. Shoppers were encouraged to donate perishable foods such as fresh produce, meat and dairy items. In all, customers donated more than 15,000 pounds of perishable food.

“Our customers always step up when we ask them to help us feed Kansas City’s hungry, and we knew we could count on them to help us Fill the Fridge,” said Casie Broker, Price Chopper director of marketing. “It’s so important to get nutritious perishable foods in kids’ diets, and we were excited to be a part of this much-needed food drive.”

Price Chopper is a long-time Harvesters supporter, and provides more than a million meals for Kansas City’s hungry every year under its CHOP Hunger food and fund raising campaign.
