Pet Food Recall Now Includes Variety of Wegmans Cat Food
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Wegmans has now been pulled into the web of the notorious Menu Foods pet food recall. The pet supplier has now added to its long list of recalled items some products that don't contain wheat gluten contaminated with melamine, but may have come in contact with it, including all code dates of Wegmans Beef and Gravy Cat Food.
Streetsville, Ont.-based Menu Foods, which manufactures pet food products sold under various national and private label brands including Wegmans' wet cat food and dog food, said that although the levels of contamination in the newly recalled products may be low or nonexistent, they decided to expand the recall as a precaution.
The Wegmans item in question comes in three-ounce packages, with a UPC number of 7789076381, the company said.
Wegmans dry cat and dog foods and treats are produced by a different supplier, so aren't by the recall.
"Customers should not feed this product to their pets, and may return the product to Wegmans for a full refund," the retailer noted in a statement.
Family-owned Wegmans operates 70 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.
