Peapod by Stop & Shop Expands to New Haven, Conn.

CHICAGO and QUINCY, Mass. - Leading Internet grocer Peapod, Inc., and Stop & Shop, New England's largest supermarket chain, has announced the expansion of service to the New Haven, Conn. metropolitan area.

Residents of Ansonia, Bridgeport, Derby, Seymour, Shelton, Stratford, and Trumbull can now visit www.stopandshop.com to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, meat, and dairy, as well as best-selling national brands and Stop & Shop private label items. Service has also been extended to Bethany, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, North Haven, Orange, West Haven, and Woodbridge. In all, these areas represent more than 698,000 households. Additional surrounding towns will be added to the delivery area in early 2004.

Shoppers can create personal lists, read nutrition information online, sort products rapidly by price or by nutrition criteria, and take advantage of personalized online coupons. Stop & Shop cardholders can shop online from a list of items they've bought at their local Stop & Shop, simply by entering their card numbers online. Groceries can be delivered as soon as the next day after the order is placed.

Peapod by Stop & Shop began serving the Boston metropolitan area in 1996 and delivered its 1 millionth order in Boston in June 2003. It also delivers to Fairfield County, Conn., Westchester County, N.Y., and Long Island, N.Y., and opened its newest facility in Hartford, Conn. in April 2003. Founded in suburban Chicago in 1989, Peapod also serves customers in the Chicago and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas. Both Stop & Shop and Peapod are wholly owned subsidiaries of Ahold.
