Peapod's newest wareroom on New York's Long Island opens Nov. 5
One of America's top online grocers, Peapod, is opening its newest wareroom on New York's Long Island -- the fifth on the island.
To be located at the Stop & Shop store in East Northport, the facility will increase order delivery capabilities by 10 percent in the New York metropolitan area. It joins facilities in Medford, South Setauket, Riverhead and Farmingdale on the island.
"With this expansion, we can reach more homes and also offer even more capacity to serve both new and existing customers. Expanding our delivery and pickup service is just one more way that Peapod is making the lives of our customers easier," said Walt Lentz, interim president of Peapod.
The facility will have more than 10,000 square feet of dedicated space and won't interrupt traditional store operations and offerings. It will also include the latest technology for maximum efficiency, and provide both home delivery and pickup options for area shoppers.
The grand opening of the new wareroom will take place Nov. 5. The facility has already created 125 local jobs.
Peapod and Stop & Shop are both owned by Quincy, Mass.-based Ahold Delhaize USA, which operates more than 1,950 stores under the Food Lion, Giant, Martin's, Hannaford, and Stop & Shop banners, as well as the Peapod grocery ecommerce service. The company is No. 4 on Progressive Grocer's 2018 Super 50 list of the top grocers in the United States.
