PBH Elects 2007 Exec Committee, Officers
WILMINGTON, Del. - The Produce for Better Health Foundation based here elected Mark Munger of Andrew Williamson Sales Co. vice chairman, and named Paul Klutes of C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. secretary/treasurer.
Munger replaces Mike O'Brien in the role of vice chairman. O'Brien, v.p. of produce at Schnuck Markets, Inc. v.p. of produce was named chairman of the board of trustees of PBH at its annual meeting this month in San Francisco.
Mary DeGroat, director of public relations for the California Strawberry Commission, was elected chair of the foundation's consumer narketing and communications committee, and John Corsaro, s.v.p. of Giumarra Cos., was appointed to the chairmanship of PBH's development committee.
Elected to serve as at-large members of PBH's executive committee were John Aune, W. Newell & Co.; Jennifer Armen-Bolen, Nunhems USA; Terry Humfeld, Produce Marketing Association; Melissa Murphy Brown, Del Monte Foods; Roger Pepperl, Stemilt Growers, Inc.; Blair Richardson, FreshSense; and Tom Stenzel, United Fresh Produce Association.
The board also recognized the services of outgoing 2006 chair Jan DeLyser, v.p. of marketing for the California Avocado Commission, who remains on the executive committee as immediate past chair; past consumer communications and marketing committee chair Ray Gilmer of BASF; and past Development Committee Chair Greggory Storey of Bayer CropScience
In other PBH news, the foundation announced the 11 winners of its 2006 National Excellence Awards for outstanding commitment to increasing fruit and vegetable consumption through corporate, employee, and community efforts. The organization presented the awards at a luncheon sponsored by Syngenta, and held in conjunction with PBH's 2007 board of trustees meeting in San Francisco.
In addition to Ahold USA, whose measures include an in-store program with PBH & Nickelodeon and a school tour program, the recipients of the award were the Alan Shawn Feinstein Community Service Center at Johnson & Wales; the California 5 a Day-for Better Health! Campaign by the California Department of Health Services; the Del Norte Unified School District in Crescent City, Calif.; Dr. Norman W. Crisp Elementary School in Nashua, N.H.; the El Paso-Gridley Community Unit School District #11 in Texas; FOODPLAY Productions, an award-winning nutrition media company that has teamed with Hannaford Bros. Supermarkets to bring shows to 200 schools in the Northeast; the Georgia Department of Education; Marietta City Schools in Georgia; Monterey County Agricultural Education, Inc.; and Rodale, Inc.
"Next year's awards will focus on how organizations take a leadership role in promoting messages associated with our new brand, Fruits & Veggies-More Matters," noted PBH president and c.e.o. Elizabeth Pivonka in a statement.
