National Apple Month Bows Retail, DeCA Display Contest

With a chance to win $14,000 in prizes, retailers and military commissaries can take part in the 2011 National Apple Month (NAM) Retail Display Contest, which launches Nov. 30. Displays must be in place for at least a two-week period and successfully integrate the 2011 “Host an Apple Pairing Party” theme.

Additionally, entered displays must creatively cross-merchandise apples and apple products with Marzetti, Smucker’s and Jif branded items, as well as effectively boost sales. Produce managers can visit NAM’s website for professionally designed point-of-sale materials, including free downloadable posters, banners and a pairing menu featuring sponsors’ products.

Entries must be postmarked or e-mailed by Jan. 15, 2012, and winners will be revealed Jan. 31. Judging will take into consideration the following criteria: use of NAM signage, creativity in incorporating “Host an Apple Pairing Party” theme, incorporation of sponsor products and effectiveness of the display in increasing sales.

Founded in 1904 by the Vienna, Va.-based U.S. Apple Association, NAM is the only national generic apple promotion in the United States.
