Marsh Taps Catalina for Checkout Coupons

Marsh Supermarkets will install Catalina Marketing Network’s proprietary checkout coupon technology in the majority of its stores by early September.

To be installed in 94 Marsh locations, the Catalina technology will allow Marsh to deliver relevant messages and incentives in the form of customized coupons to customers based on the customer’s grocery shopping preferences.

“Catalina offers our customers added value to their shopping experience while continuing to build our brand as well as the brands of our trade partners,” said Joe Kelley, Marsh chairman, CEO and president. “We are committed to providing our customers with the best supermarket shopping experience possible and the Catalina technology will help us accomplish that goal.”

Ed Kuehnle, Catalina president, said: “Marsh Supermarkets is an ideal partner for Catalina and we look forward to a very successful collaboration. Marsh has a well-respected presence in the chain supermarket arena and this partnership represents a significant expansion to our network in that channel. We’re excited about the opportunity to bring value to more consumers and the brands we help build.”

The addition of Catalina allows Marsh and its trade partners to deliver customized messages and appealing offers to improve the efficiency of in-store promotions and brand-building efforts. This efficiency is achieved by using Catalina’s proprietary network and analytics to design campaigns that talk to the right consumers with the message they need at the most appropriate time in their purchase cycle.

“With Catalina, we will be able to offer our customers valuable incentives printed at the time of checkout for products the customer has a history of purchasing,” said John Kelly, Marsh senior VP of marketing. “By making coupons and other brand communications relevant to each customer, we can increase the likelihood that those customers will visit our stores again in the future and hopefully come to see Marsh as their favorite homegrown grocery.”

Indianapolis-based Marsh operates 72 Marsh, 3 O’Malia’s Supermarkets and 22 MainStreet Markets in Indiana and Ohio, with 40 Indiana pharmacy locations.
