Marsh Opens Revamped Downtown Indy Store

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- After a major $3 million renovation that touched everything from the front door to the front end, Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. will cut the ribbon this morning on a former O'Malia's downtown store here the grocer has converted to Marsh the Marketplace at Lockerbie.

Company officials said the store represents a convergence of two strong local retail brands in a burgeoning urban residential area.

"Our goal was two-fold; to enhance the overall shopping experience, but also to improve the store within this historic neighborhood," said Frank Lazaran, Marsh chairman, c.e.o. and president.

Lazaran said the $3 million facelift marries the best of Marsh and O'Malia's in one very unique urban supermarket. Larry Schultz, the store's manager for more than 20, years will continue in his present capacity along with his store team, the chain said.

"Our loyal customers are getting a fresher, brighter version of the store they love, and downtown Indianapolis is getting a well-designed grocery store to serve the growing needs of the booming residential market," said Lazaran. "As a recognized corporate citizen in Indianapolis, we are proud to now be offering this new and improved market, which represents the best of our offerings."

Among the store's key highlights: The meat department will be known as the O'Malia's Butcher Shop and continue to offer an extensive service meat case. For added convenience, a self-service meat case is also now available.

A new layout in the produce department, meanwhile, provides shoppers an expanded variety of fresh fruits and vegetables with emphasis on over 150 natural and organic items. Overall, the store offers over 900 varieties of natural and organic products.

The store also boasts an array of expanded and improved existing departments such as seafood, fresh bakery, floral and the soup and salad bar.
