Maine Gets First Stop & Shop
QUINCY, Mass. -- Maine's first Stop & Shop opens today in the town of Kennebunk. The 60,000-square-foot store will be manned by 200 employees hailing not only from Kennebunk, but also from the surrounding towns of Kennebunkport, Wells, Arundel, Sanford, and Biddeford, said the chain.
"We're committed to bringing our customers a great shopping experience, and have designed a store that will offer them fresh and unique products at low prices every day," said Stop & Shop s.v.p. of sales and operations Mark McGowan in a statement.
Among the new store's features are a Starbucks cafe with free WiFi access, locally grown products such as Wyman's Maine blueberries and Arnold Farm maple syrup, a produce department including Stop & Shop's "Orchard Perfect" brand fruit and a salad bar, Foods-To-Go offerings and a deli offering Boar's Head products, a natural foods department carrying the banner's "Nature's Promise" line of natural and organic products, a full-service sushi bar, a seafood department with fresh seafood and lobster from Kennebunk's Maine Shellfish Co. Inc., a Best Sellers! book, movie, magazine, and video section, an office supplies department with products from Staples, and a "Toy Zone" department.
