The 2016 Seafood Excellence Awards winners were revealed on the first day of Seafood Expo North America (SENA) on March 6 in Boston. Vancouver, British Columbia-based French Creek Seafoods (Booth #2833) won the Best New Retail award for its Kickin’ Seafood Chili, while Seattle-based Trident Seafoods (Booth #805) won the Best New Foodservice award for its SeaFusions Pacific Cod Bites.
Winners were chosen on March 6 from 12 finalists during live judging by a panel of seafood buyers and industry experts from the retail and foodservice industries. Among this year’s judges was Sunita Seran, of Brampton, Ontario-based Loblaw Cos. Ltd.
Finalists were earlier selected through a screening of products in the SENA New Product Showcase. The showcase features seafood products, condiments and culinary dishes introduced over the past year by exhibiting companies.
The Seafood Excellence Awards honor product leaders in the North American seafood market. The new products are evaluated based on such criteria as uniqueness and appropriateness to the market, taste profile, market potential, convenience, nutritional value, and originality.
Co-located with Seafood Processing North America, SENA is North America’s largest seafood trade event.
