Lin’s, Macey’s Install New POS System
Utah grocers Macey’s and Lin’s Fresh Market each recently installed a new point-of-sale (POS) system to optimize effectiveness and efficiency of operations and customer engagement.
The new system, RORCv6, from East Syracuse, N.Y.-based DUMAC Business Systems, is specifically designed for independent grocers, which it benefits in several areas, particularly at checkout. The solution allows stores to make shift changeover faster and more efficient by changing cashier accountability to lane accountability. Cash and sales information are accounted for via the system at each checkout lane, reducing changeover time by 50 percent and virtually eliminating counting errors: lanes are now counted only once per day by a trained manager, compared with multiple times a day by cashiers. Additionally, bookkeepers no longer have to enter drawer amounts by hand.
Outside the store, the RORCv6 POS system has allowed integration of each grocer’s e-commerce program. All retailers using it have access to Rosie’s e-commerce suite, which includes web and mobile shopping apps for consumers, order fulfillment tools, digital marketing services and data analytics. The grocers’ recently added third-party loyalty programs also integrate seamlessly with the system.
Although the new software required Lin’s and Macey’s to retrain their staff, the process was quick, allowing time to develop employees in areas outside of software training, said Ashlee Johnston, manager of Associated Food Stores (AFS).
Macey's and Lin's are members of Salt Lake City-based AFS. Macey’s operates 12 stores, and Lin’s Fresh Market operates seven.
