Kmart Offers Pet Health Check, Adoption Programs in Some Stores
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- In the wake of successive pet food recalls and growing public concern over the welfare of pets overall, Kmart said it will offer pet health check and adoption programs at a number of stores in May, which is also National Pet Month.
The chain said participating Kmart stores will collaborate with local animal shelters to host pet adoption drives on Saturday, May 19; and offer free health checks with local veterinarians and advice on the care of pets the following Saturday, May 26.
"We know that pets are more and more important in the lives of our customers, and we're responding," said Peter Whitsett, s.v.p./merchandising officer, Sears Holdings. "In addition to the adoption and vet check programs in May, Kmart has introduced a new line of pet food and products called Champion Breed and offers discounted pet medications through our pharmacy. Customers can save money without compromising on quality on items for some of the most beloved members of the family."
A wholly owned subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corp., Kmart's new private label pet product line includes food, treats, toys, and litter. The formulations compare to leading national brands, but are sold at competitive prices. The products are being introduced now at Kmart stores all over the country, the chain said.
In addition, national pet food brand Pedigree is offering a free month's supply of dog food to all Kmart customers who adopt a dog in the month of May, at the Kmart events or any local shelter. To redeem the offer, customers need to show a copy of adoption papers at checkout.
