Ito En Opens First In-Store Retail Space

EDGEWATER, N.J. -- Green tea company Ito En (North America), Inc. opened its first in-store retail shop last week in Mitsuwa Marketplace, a 100,000-square-foot Asian mall here. The marketplace is currently undergoing a remodeling to showcase its variety of retailers.

The new Ito En shop carries the company's full range of products, including a selection of ready-to-drink beverages, loose-leaf teas, tea gift sets, select teaware, the Sencha Shot and all-natural, unsweetened ready-to-drink Teas' Tea lines, and a selection of Ito En signature drinks.

"Products that were once only of interest to the Asian community have really moved into the mainstream consciousness of the American consumer," explained Ito En (North America) president Yosuke Honjo. "Ito En chose to set up our first in-store retail space in Mitsuwa Marketplace because this area of New Jersey is already viewed as a destination for anyone in the metropolitan area looking for Asian food products. It strategically made sense as we move to expand our retail operations outside of our award-winning tea store on Madison Ave." The company also operates the KAI and Donguri restaurants.

Ito En (North America) Inc. is a subsidiary of Ito En, Ltd., a producer of green tea leaves and green tea beverages, which imports and markets the Teas' Tea, Sencha Shot, Tea Lemon, and Tea Apple lines in the United States. Since U.S. operations were established in 2001, Teas' Tea has experienced a 108 percent growth rate in the ready-to-drink natural tea arena, according to the company.
