IGA Staging Family Meals Marketing Event

CHICAGO, Ill. - IGA based here is launching an in-store event designed to encourage families to share meals together. The IGA Hometown Family Meals event will take place April 22-May 5, in participating IGA stores across the country.

During the two-week timeframe, IGA supermarkets will offer savings on brand-name consumer sponsor products, as well as the opportunity for two families to win the national grand prize of weekly "Family Meals for a Year."

Both national grand prize packages will be awarded by random drawing in the form of fifty-two $50 IGA gift certificates, IGA said.

IGA said Hometown Family Meals is the premiere marketing event in the 2007 IGA Family, Friends & Food marketing program. Though the event is based around the "Family Meals for a Year" sweepstakes, senior director of branding and business development Jim Walz stressed that the goal of Family Meals and all IGA events going forward is to provide retailers with the resources they need to tailor events to their own communities.

"When retailers mount the Family Meals event in their communities, they have a great opportunity to impact the quality of life of families," said Walz. "To be truly effective, our marketing events need to be memorable promotions that will differentiate IGA retailers from their competitors and provide some platform for bettering the community. The Family Meals theme does that, but it works even better when our retailers personalize the event and bring it on home. We've had tremendous response from our retailers to this concept, ranging from take-home prepared family meal specials to a family meal essay contest where the winner gets the chance to star in a local IGA commercial."

Manufacturers sponsoring the 2007 IGA Family, Friends & Food marketing event program include: Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Campbell Soup Co., The Coca-Cola Co./Coca-Cola Hydration Business Unit, ConAgra Foods, Inc., Georgia-Pacific Corp., The Hershey Co., Kraft Foods, Nabisco, Nestle USA, Nestle Purina PetCare Company, The J.M. Smucker Co., and Unilever.
