Harris Teeter Starts Flood Relief Fund

Harris Teeter has launched an in-store donation card campaign to support survivors of the recent floods that inundated the Carolinas. Shoppers and associates in North and South Carolina can donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout, or through Harris Teeter's online shopping tool, ExpressLane, to add to the American Red Cross’ Disaster Relief Fund. The campaign runs through Oct. 31.

"We are heartbroken for the families and individuals affected by this devastating flood," said Danna Robinson, Harris Teeter's communication manager. "Harris Teeter was born in the Carolinas, and our commitment to these states is extremely strong. When a natural disaster such as this occurs, it is hard to know how to help, which is why we are [offering] our shoppers and valued associates the opportunity to assist their neighbors."

In addition to the donation card campaign, Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., has provided a truckload of bottled water to flood survivors in Columbia, S.C., and transported donated product to affected areas for several community collection efforts. The grocer is also working through its Hugh Ashcraft Foundation to assist associates who were displaced or affected by the flooding in Charleston, S.C. The foundation offers financial support to Harris Teeter employees undergoing financial hardships due to sudden and unforeseen circumstances.

Teaming with Harris Teeter on the campaign is Charlotte, N.C., CBS-affiliated television station WBTV, which is serving as the grocer's official media partner on the effort.
