Harris Teeter Joins Forces With American Cancer Society
To help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays, Southeast regional grocer Harris Teeter and the American Cancer Society are teaming during the month of March to raise funds for the organization.
Next month, all Harris Teeter locations will sell $1, $3 and $5 donation cards to support the society’s work of helping people stay well and get well, finding cures, and fighting back. The initiative is part of the organization’s “More Birthdays” campaign.
“Our shoppers have shown us time and time again their generosity and willingness to get involved in nonprofit organizations fighting to make a difference in their communities,” said Danna Jones, a spokeswoman for Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter. “Our goal for this donation card campaign is not only to raise money for research, but we also hope to inspire our shoppers to learn more about cancer prevention and ways to finds treatment.”
Thanks in part to the Atlanta-based society, more than 11 million cancer survivors are celebrating birthdays this year, and the five-year survival rate has surpassed 66 percent for all cancers combined, with death rates from cancer declining steadily since the early 1990s.
