Harris Teeter, Amelia Island Launch Vacation Giveaway

Harris Teeter Supermarkets and the Amelia Island Convention & Visitors’ Bureau (CVB) are joining forces for the fifth straight year to offer a vacation giveaway and special discounts to the grocery chain’s customers. From January through March, subscribers to Harris Teeter’s e-VIC (Very Important Customer) program are entered to win a six-night vacation for four to northeast Florida’s Amelia Island, a trip valued at more than $5,000.

As well as accommodations at the oceanfront Summer Beach Resort, the vacation package includes a round of golf at Golf Club of Amelia Island, a trip with Kayak Amelia, tickets for the Amelia River Cruises, a private horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown Fernandina Beach with Old Towne Carriage Co., and admission to the Amelia Island Museum of History. The winner also receives gift certificates to Joe’s 2nd Street Bistro, Crab Trap, BarZin Bistro and Wine Bar and Sliders Seaside Grill, a $100 American Express gift card for further dining, and $1,000 toward travel expenses.

In April, Amelia Island will introduce special discount offers available to customers with Harris Teeter VIC cards, which can be used to access special discounts at various lodging properties, attractions and retail outlets at the resort.

The TIE That Binds

In other Harris Teeter news, the company has donated $20 million since 1998 to schools participating in its “Together in Education” (TIE) program. When customers buy participating Harris Teeter brand products or fill a prescription in a Harris Teeter pharmacy using a VIC card, the grocer contributes a percentage of those purchase dollars to the school(s) of their choice. Schools can then use the donated funds for anything from basic supplies to band equipment or computers.

Harris Teeter’s TIE bonus programs have included “We Think Green,” which helped teach students the importance of recycling plastic bags, with the school that gathered the most bags over an established time period winning $1,000; “Teachers of Excellence,” which rewarded educators for their commitment, with winning teachers winning $1,000 for themselves and $1,000 for their schools; and “Sing My Jingle,” which gave schools the chance to sing the “My Harris Teeter” jingle, with the top school getting $10,000.

To mark the $20 million donation milestone, Harris Teeter and TIE are launching a $100,000 giveaway contest in February, in which shoppers whose VIC cards are linked to a school enrolled in the program will receive a pleasant surprise.

Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter Inc.employs about 25,000 associates and operates stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.
