Grocery Outlet Opens 200th Store

Extreme value food retailer Grocery Outlet this past weekend opened its 200th store located in Sacramento Pocket, Calif. – a new milestone for the third-generation, family-led company founded in 1946.

"We are thrilled to add our 200th store to the list of successful, locally owned and operated Grocery Outlet stores," said MacGregor Read, co-CEO at Grocery Outlet and grandson of founder Jim Read. "This is a major accomplishment for our team and more importantly, supports our mission to help even more people save money on name brands they trust."

Grocery Outlet shoppers pay up to 50 percent less on brand name, quality foods and merchandise. According to the grocer, in 2013 thus far, Grocery Outlet customers have saved more than $693 million collectively on their grocery bills, because the retailer buys overstocks, package changes, test market and promotional products directly from manufacturers at deep discounts. The cost savings are passed along to their customers among their selection of products, including fresh produce, organic and specialty foods, dry groceries, frozen goods, beauty items and beer and wine.

Like the 200th store, most Grocery Outlet stores are independently owned and operated, and the local owner/operators are encouraged to build a family-focused business and give back to their local communities.

Grocery Outlet has 200 locations in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
