Giant-Landover Serves Lunch to Inauguration Day Officers

Giant Food LLC of Landover, Md., is providing boxed lunches and water for the 5,000 officers and rangers of the Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Park Police and National Park Service who are securing the safety of the 57th Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21.

The Ahold USA division is also distributing 15,000 bottles of water to Inaugural Parade participants, including representatives chosen by the Presidential Inaugural Committee from each of the five branches of the Armed Services and all 50 states, among them bands, groups, and float operators and riders.

“This marks the 20th Inauguration Giant has celebrated -- from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the second Inauguration of President Barack Obama,” said Giant Food president Anthony Hucker. “As the nation’s capital grocer, it’s always been a priority for us to give back to the communities we’re so privileged to serve.” Hucker described the meals as “healthy and hearty lunches to help sustain [the officers and rangers] through today’s long shifts.”

Giant Food operates 170 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, employing about 22,000 associates.
