Giant Landover Offering Free Tickets to Barbecue Battle
Giant Food will hold a free-ticket promotion ahead of the 24th Annual Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle, one of the largest food and music festivals in the country, which is slated to take place June 25-26 on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.
For a limited time, shoppers who buy two participating items at Giant will receive a coupon for one free adult Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket at the event admissions gate. Participating store items are listed in Giant’s weekly ads and marked with in-store shelf tags.
“This year’s Barbecue Battle is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet,” said Gordon Reid, president of Landover, Md.-based Giant Food, which this year is the event’s title sponsor for the first time. “The Barbecue Battle also raises funds to support the missions of both the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore and the Capital Area Food Bank, two organizations that Giant Food supports and that are so important to our region.”
For the first time ever, the event will host Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, where defending champion Joey Chestnut will be a celebrity judge. Additionally, the festival will feature more cooking demonstrations, twice as many free food samples and consultations with Giant’s in-store nutritionists, who will provide healthy-grilling tips. More than 100,000 barbecue and music fans attend the festival each year.
Owned by Ahold USA, Giant Food operates 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs about 20,000 associates.
