DarioHealth's Digital Diabetes Education and Rewards Program will soon be available to Giant Eagle's 4.6 million shoppers

Giant Eagle has signed an agreement to roll out DarioHealth’s Digital Diabetes Education and Rewards Program at the grocer’s 214 pharmacy locations.

The global digital health company’s Dario Blood Glucose Monitoring System will be available to Giant Eagle’s estimated 4.6 million customers served annually. Giant Eagle shoppers who enroll in and use the Dario system will receive diabetes education content via mobile app, in addition to rewards related to better management of their condition.

“Giant Eagle has been an innovator and pioneer in the supermarket business since its founding in 1931,” noted Jim Tsipakis, SVP, pharmacy at Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle. “We continuously look to integrate best-of-breed technologies to improve our patients’ health and their quality of life. We are excited to offer the benefits of digital health care to our patients through DarioHealth’s platform.”

Added Tracy DeLucia, the grocer’s senior manager, pharmacy marketing: “When evaluating how we can better serve our patients living with diabetes, DarioHealth’s product presented itself as a clear choice, because it empowers the user with knowledge that is personalized and real-time. Their app has robust tracking and reporting capabilities as well as alerts, messages, content and reminders to help patients stay adherent with testing.

“As a supermarket and a pharmacy, our goal is to have our patients thrive through healthy choices made both in the food aisle and in the pharmacy with the best technologies to monitor and treat their health condition.”

Giant Eagle operates almost 400 stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland. The company is No. 16 on Progressive Grocer’s 2018 Super 50 list of the top grocers in the United States.
