FreshDirect Readies for D.C. Entry

FreshDirect is readying to enter the Washington, D.C., area with its grocery delivery service.

The New York-based company, which secured a $189 million investment last September, is now communicating to users on its website that it's “coming to your area soon” when they input a D.C.-area ZIP code. The news follows the grocer's February announcement of 2017 growth plans, including expansion into a major metropolitan area in Q2, with further market launches the following year.

“Say goodbye to the three-stop shop,” the company says on its website. “FreshDirect delivers the freshest groceries right to your door when you want them.”

In addition to helping fund the company's expansion into new markets, the investment is helping FreshDirect double its manufacturing capabilities and drive innovative new product lines, two goals the company announced for 2017.

FreshDirect currently serves residents in the New York metropolitan area, and in Philadelphia, a market it entered in 2012.
