Food Lion Slashes Prices Throughout Store

Food Lion has lowered prices on thousands of popular items, heralded by eye-catching new signage throughout the chain's stores.

"Affordable prices and great deals are a significant part of our heritage at Food Lion and the reason why we have invested further to bring our customers even lower prices," explained Meg Ham, president of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, adding that the new program "is not only about making grocery shopping more affordable for our customers, but also making it easier, as we have redesigned our in-store signage so customers can easily identify savings throughout the store."

Food Lion lowered prices following extensive customer research of frequently purchased items, including apple juice, peanut butter, frozen vegetables, canned beans, paper towels and detergent. The program offers "Ways to Save" through three easily identifiable signs:

  • Hot Sale: Food Lion's top weekly specials, available only with the banner’s MVP card
  • WOW: Lower prices on thousands of popular items, offered for longer periods of time
  • Low Price: Staple items, featuring everyday low prices

The price reductions are an extension of Food Lion's "Easy, Fresh and Affordable. You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day!" strategy, which launched last year and also includes a larger assortment of products, stepped-up customer service, and remodeled stores.

A company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, Food Lion operates more than 1,100 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
