D&W Fresh Market, Miller Poultry Donate 8,400 Lbs of Birds

Western Michigan area food pantries were the benefactors of a much-needed donation of 8,400 pounds of frozen chicken drumsticks, from D&W Fresh Market and one of its suppliers, Miller Poultry.

Jeanne Norcross, spokeswoman for D&W's parent, Spartan Stores, said the donation from Miller Poultry, which has supplied the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer/distributor with fresh, all natural, hormone-free chicken for the past few years, is right on time.

"This generous donation from Miller Poultry will serve 22,400 West Michigan residents this holiday season," said Norcross. "In this tough economy with rising unemployment, there is an increasing demand on the food pantries."

Along with the donation, D&W Fresh Market supplied the food pantries with copies of low-cost, nutritional chicken recipes.
